Graduation Card

It's that time of year again when graduation invitations arrive in the mail. I have to admit that masculine type cards really aren't my specialty but since my lone graduate this year is male I had no choice beyond buying a store bought card.  I based my card on a sketch for this week's Sketch for You to Try challenge.

My original thought was to buy a stamp with a cap and gown motif but I thought that would have too limiting a use.  Instead I selected Papertrey Ink's Fly Away since it afforded more design opportunites.

I started out by stamping the plane image onto PTI cardstock with Tuxedo Black Memento ink.  I then stamped the same image again using London Fog Memento ink and cut out around the body only.  I placed it on top of the already stamped piece to get a two toned image (so much easier than masking). I then cut out using one of my circle Nestabilities, sponging around the edges with Summer Sky Memento ink while it was still in the die. I stamped the banner onto PTI cardstock using Tuxedo Black and then stamped the sentiment inside it with Memento Lady Bug ink. The cloud was cut using the fabulous new My Favorite Things Die-namics. I also sponged around it with Summer Sky ink and stamped my PTI sentiment from the Mega Mixed Messages set. I attached it to the card using a pop dot so it would appear to float; I did the same with the banner piece. The report card paper is from the Jillibean Soup Alphabet Soup collection.  I cut it down to fit the card size and then punched the left edge with a Stampin' Up Spiral Notebook punch.  To stay with the school theme I used pieces from the Cosmo Cricket The Boyfriend collection as the background. The black houndstooth strips are from a Pink Paislee Bayberry Cottage paper.  I added a washer raided from The Donald's toolbox for an industrial touch but softened it up with some Kaisercraft pearls and baker's twine.

Products: Cosmo Cricket, Jillibean Soup and Pink Paislee pp, PTI cs and stamps, Kaisercraft pearls, Stampin' Up punch, Spellbinders Nestabilities

I am off to a Copic certification class on Friday.  I'll see you back here next week.
