Oh Boy

My nephew and his wife are expecting their first child and yesterday was the baby shower. It is always fun to create cards for the impending birth of a child. It's such a wonderful and happy occasion and when it is family, it is even more special.  At first I struggled with what I wanted to do but I decided to take a cue from one of the gifts. The minute I saw this blanket in the store I wanted to get it.  Not only was it cute and oh so soft, it matched the nursery colors of blue, brown and tan.

I stamped the Sassafrass Lass elephant image from the Jungle set using Memento Summer Sky ink onto Papertrey Ink cardstock.  I cut out the image, added the button and then adhered it to the circle with pop dots for dimension.  The patterned paper is some older Creative Imaginations.  This card was small, only 3.75 square so it would fit inside the 4x4 envelope also from Papertrey Ink.

Flutter

Good morning!  We had a bit of rain very early this morning and it's left us with such a sweet, fresh smell.  I was awake rather early so I made a quick card before my little granddaughter arrived for the day.  Easy and done in no time at all since I already had the image cut out and colored with my Copic Markers. I also had penciled a rough sketch out for the design although I wound up modifying it some.

Flutter may very well be my favorite Making Memories collection ever.  Love the spring colors and images.  It goes perfectly with the fairy image by Sweet November.

BTW, how do you moms with toddlers do anything crafty?! I know I use to do it when son was a baby but grandmother has forgotten!

Green at Heart

I picked up a couple of pieces of the brand new Basic Grey Green at Heart collection and couldn't wait to cut into it. I have a major case of spring fever and the colors in this line reflect that.  I was especially drawn to the kite piece in the Pops package and paired it with one of the My Favorite Things Pure Innocence stamps along with some Au Dela Des Cimes paper from my stash.  I created the illusion of hills using the BG floral piece and then sewed the hills and the background onto the card.  I then stamped the image with Memento Black Tuxedo ink onto Prism Simply Smooth cardstock.  I cut out the image and mounted to the card background with adhesive only at her tummy allowing her to curve forward a bit.  I placed a small pop dot underneath her head to make sure she stays that way when mailed.  I placed the kite piece so that the tails are wrapped around her little hand.

I am also submitting this card for this week's Simon Says Challenge which is for Easter or Spring with sparkly things.

Hippity Hoppity

I had a productive weekend and finished up my Easter cards using the fabulous Jillibean Soup Egg Drop Soup collection.  See this post to view my first card using these papers. My thoughts are still focused on Spring even though the weather made a sudden left turn and got cold again.  I'm really hoping that this is the last gasp of Winter.

The first card is my version of this week's Taylored Expressions sketch challenge.  I stamped the egg images with Memento Rich Cocoa ink onto Papertrey Ink cardstock and then colored with Copic Markers.  I cut them both out and then mounted onto a background piece that I had embossed with my Swiss Dots Cuttlebug Embossing folder.

Copic Markers: Y11, Y21, R81, R83, BG10, BG11

For my second card, I used the same Unity image as the card above except this time I just simply stamped onto patterned paper.  The second egg image is a dollar stamp from Michael's which I colored with Copic Markers.  The row of bunnies at the bottom were punched with a Martha Stewart punch I bought the other day with the famous coupon.  It's hard to see in a photo but the paper has a suedelike texture (it's been in my stash forever).  I added a tiny white pom pom for the bunny tails for even more texture.

Hello Spring

It's a beautiful Spring day here in Alabama.  72 degrees, gloriously sunny, sprigs of green finally appearing on the lawn, buttercups popping up, the Camellia bushes overloaded with blooms and my personal favorite, forysthia painting the landscape with bright yellow cheer.  With Spring comes Easter so I thought I better get started on my Easter cards for my little granddaughters.

My first Easter card for the season is also my contribution for this week's Mojo Monday Sketch. I found the sentiment and the egg stamp in the Michael's dollar bin a few days ago.  I stamped the egg images using Memento Rich Cocoa ink onto Neenah Solar White cardstock.  I colored them with Copic markers and them cut out trimming closely along the edge.  While I was at M's I looked for the Martha Stewart grass border punch  but apparently they were all sold out.  Then I remembered that I had this Quickutz grass die.  I popped it into my Cuttlebug and voila....now my Easter eggs sit gently in the grass!

Before I Can Buy Something New...

I have a new rule that I before I can buy a new paper collection I have to use any uncut papers from the last release first.  In these tough economic times it really is the only way I can justify hobby type purchases.  And since I have my eye on some of the new Crate Paper, especially Paper Doll, I rounded up my unused pieces from the Bliss collection released this past summer to create this card.  These papers pair up so well with the fun and whimsical fairy stamp by Sweet November

Today's card is my version of Jen's Sketch For You To Try.  The Sweet November stamp is fairly new and I inked it up for the first time.  As per usual, I stamped the image using Memento ink onto Prism Simply Smooth cardstock and then colored with Copic Markers.  It was a fun departure to color her hair in pinks.  I used a clear Spica pen on the eyes and the fringe on the skirt to add a bit of shine.

Rain, Rain Go Away

So much rain here! We had a deluge last week complete with tornado warnings and flash floods. That storm front left the south and is now doing the same to the northeast. Unfortunately we our forecast for intermittent rain throughout this week too so I throught some cards featuring umbrellas were rather fitting.

I created this card for the Friday Sketcher's Blog.  My version features a Rachelle Anne Miller for Stampavie stamp, Lily and Milo - Rainy Days.  I combined it with some brand new Jillibean Soup patterned paper, "Egg Drop Soup." Cute, huh?  I stamped the image onto Prism Simply Smooth Cardstock using Memento ink, colored with Copic Markers, then cut it out trimming closely around the edges.  I mounted the image onto a piece of cardstock that I had embossed with my Cuttlebug Swiss Dots embossing folder.  I pieced the umbrella using two more patterns from the Jillibean Soup collection, trimmed and adhered to the image with pop dots for added dimension.

My second card features a My Favorite Things Pure Innocence My Umbrella stamp and yet more new paper from the Prima Umbrella Collection.  The design is based loosely on a sketch from the Lord Have Mercy! blog.  Same as before, the image was stamped with Memento Ink onto Prism Simply Smooth Cardstock and then colored with Copic Markers.  The image piece was mounted onto one of the fabric pieces from the American Crafts Dear Lizzie collection.  I can happily say that it cut like a champ using my Spellbinders Nestabilities which I ran through my Cuttlebug machine.  There were a few fuzzies on one edge but I trimmed those with scissors.  I think it adds a bit of unexpected texture to the card.

That it is for the day.  I hope all is well in your little corner of the world.

Our Girl

I finally feel like I am getting over the upper respiratory infection I've been suffering from for the past couple of weeks. My energy level is still lagging but I'm getting there. SO ready for Spring.  Hopefully it means I can put all the sickies behind me.

Please excuse my project photos; they might actually take a little longer to load than normal since the file size is larger.  A word of advice, do not upgrade to Windows 7 unless:  a) You have to, as in my case since my old laptop died and there or no new computers out there that aren't Windows 7. Or b) you can afford to replace all your software and hardware that are not compatible with 7.  My Epson scanner which is admittedly old but still a good one has been rendered obsolete as Epson has no plans to provide a compatible driver.  Plus PSE 7 does not work and it was my only photo editor.  That one is especially hard to take as I have not had it very long and now it is useless.  I've tried working with Adobe but frankly they have made the problem worse not to mention caused some things to happen to my brand new laptop that I'm not happy about.  I gave up, found a good restore point and put it back to its original state. So for now I am editing my photos via Picnik while I weigh my options or find some money.  Anyway, that's my PSA for the day.

Now on to the fun part of this post!  First up is a card based on the current Taylored Expressions sketch challenge.  I used some of my favorite Crate Paper collection and combined it with My Mind's Eye patterned paper.  Very simple stamping on this one!

Products: Basic Grey stamp, Crate Paper and My Mind's Eye patterned paper, Cuttlebug Embossing Folder, Spellbinders Nestiabilities, Martha Stewart border punch, May Arts ribbon, Papertrey Ink buttons

While I had the paper out, I also made a layout featuring my sweet granddaughter Clara.

Another Cosmo Day....Part 2

Welcome to another Cosmo Cricket day.  If you missed Part 1, go here

I had great intentions of getting this done last week but both Don and I have been sick again with a really bad cold/flu-like thing.  This time it has hit me harder than him and I've pretty much been doing a whole lot of nothing.

First up is a card I made for the current Sugar Bowl challenge.  I stamped the Sugar Nellie image using Memento Ink onto Prism cardstock and then colored with Copic Markers.  I used some of very favorite Cosmo Cricket paper line ever, Girl Friday.

Products: Cosmo Cricket Girl Friday patterned paper, Basic Grey Lace paper, My Mind's Eye (background), Sugar Nellie stamp, Prima flower, Papertrey Ink button and cardstock (for the card base), Kaisercraft Pearls

Copic Markers: Skin - E00, R01, R20; Hair - E55, E57; Jeans - BG10, BG11, BG72; Blouse, Gloves & Flowers on Hat - RV32, RV34; Hat - Y21, Y23; Greenery & Trowel - G21, G24; Tulips - R20, R22; Flower Pot - E33, E15; Background - B00000

I orginally made this card for the Sweet Sunday Sketch Challenge but did not get it posted for the deadline due to my head being on a pillow most of the week.

I used my new Cosmo Cricket Garden Variety collection.  I stamped the MFT Pure Innocence image using Memento ink onto Prism cardstock and then colored with Copic Markers.  I stamped the image again onto my patterned paper, trimmed closely around the umbrella portion and then pop dotted onto the image to give more of an illusion that the little girl is actually under the umbrella.

My next project is a layout featuring my granddaughter Clara.  I used the fabulous Garden Variety collection again as it really represents the sunny/fun nature of the photos.
